Early Position Cards
In poker, the value of your cards varies not just with the symbols on the cards, but on where you sit at the casino table. The further away from being the first to act, the better your cards get (whatever they are). When you are in the early position, your options become very limited. The hands that you should choose to play become few and far between. Here are a few that are viable to a player in an early position.
Pairs-If you’re in an early position, you’ll want to play pocket pairs, but a specific kind. You’ll want big pairs or medium pairs that can survive a flop. Faces are great, but beware Jacks and tens-if anything higher comes out, you’ll be in a dangerous spot.
Connectors-you only want to play high suited connectors in the early position. A-K suited and the like are going to be your best bets, so to speak. With A-K suited, you will be set up for high pairs, as well as straight and flush potential. If you’ve got a 7-8 suited, you are putting yourself in a position with fewer poker outs.
Don’t be afraid to fold your hand as well. If you’ve got pocket Jacks and the flop comes K-K-Q, you’re going to want out, and don’t fall in love with that A-K suited if it doesn’t hit anything on the flop.
