Limit Game Tournaments
In the beginning stages of a online poker limit tournament, the pots aren’t worth getting involved in without a premium starting hand; especially in a split pot game.
In fixed limit Omaha H/L online poker I play very tight until the antes kick in. In the beginning, people are often 4 betting preflop to juice the pot in case the hit really hard, and it often costs you the maximum to see the flop. In Omaha, I like to try and see the flop cheaply, since so many of the decisions are made postflop. I also, avoid raising preflop until the blinds are large enough to make some people actually fold.
The beginning pots are often mutliway, so the capped betting even at low limits does build up and become substantial. To take advantage of this, play those good starting hands and try to scoop a big pot. But, try not to get involved with marginal drawing hands as you may be committing a good percentage of your stack just to see a missed flop, or the second nuts.
Likewise, if I chip up early, I often sit out until the blinds are worthwhile. The stakes aren’t going to offer you much in the way of increasing your chip lead, and you’re likely just to be dropping it a little bit at a time seeing flops. As opposed to NL Texas Holdem, you’re not going to be stealing blinds and chipping up. More people are seeing flops in these limit games and there are much more showdowns.
